Carolana has a record stating Charles was killed at the Battle of Eutaw Springs (below), but Charles’ Will was written on 18 June 1782 and proved on 6 Aug 1782. This indicates Charles survived the battle but given his death within a year and the sources that say he died at Eutaw Springs, it’s likely Charles was injured severely at Eutaw Springs, or suffered wounds that led to an early death a year later.

The Battle of Eutaw Springs, 8 September 1781:

2nd NC Regiment led by Major Reading Blount with the following eight (8) known companies, led by: - Capt. Samuel Budd (POW) - Capt. Benjamin Carter - Capt. Tilghman Dixon - Capt. Thomas Evans - Capt. William Goodman (killed) - Capt. Christopher Goodwin (killed) - Capt. Joshua Hadley (wounded) - Capt. Charles Stewart (killed)[3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Charles by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Charles:

Stewart-39097 and Stewart-2847 appear to represent the same person because: same guy
Two days ago I received a message from Randee Stewart-Clark, proposing a merge between Stewart-28374 and Stewart-2847. I didn't have a chance to look into it until just now. When I attempted to approve the merge, I got this message: "This action cannot be completed because Stewart-28374 has been merged into another profile.

It may be that the merge you are trying to do has already been done by someone else." It looks like Stewart-28374 was merged into Stewart-19452. I only know about Capt. Charles Stewart, since he is the alleged father of my ancestor Ailsey Stewart-2846. Before I renew any activity to merge Stewart-2847 into Stewart-19452, I thought it best to see if anyone can verify that Ailsey was indeed Charles' daughter. There is so much false information out there, from compiled genealogies, that I tend to avoid making any entries for people without contemporary documentation... a lesson that has been very hard in the learning!

Hello George, thank you for your response! I had found 3 separate profiles for this Charles. He is indeed the father of Ailsey based on my research and DNA.

I have tested my Y-DNA, mtDNA, and Autosomal DNA as well as 23 of my immediate Stewart relatives plus 10+ years of research to get my lines confirmed and verified since so much incorrect information exists. I'm now ready to add everything to WikiTree and have just been trying to connect the information based on my findings. I'm not sure about the merge other than that I indeed request it, initially. Thank you again and feel free to message me if you would like to discuss anything further.

Thank you, Randee. That is most enlightening, and I've merged Stewart-19452 with Stewart-2847.
George,

Thank you so much!!! I am going to be filling in lots of the other information and profiles to complete what I've discovered as the rest of the family via DNA. Also, you can now see the connection to the Royal Stewart's!!! Again, thank you and feel free to contact me.

Hello George,

Ailsey Stewart Hackney is indeed the daughter of Charles Stewart, as is Mary Stewart Brown, Sarah "Sally" Stewart Marsh, Frankey Stewart, Nancy Ann Stewart Hackney, Rachel Stewart Marsh, Happy Stewart Fooshee, and Anney Stewart as seen in the will of Charles Stewart. The Will can be found at https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/9061/images/007639835_01105?pId=1003215&backurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ancestry.com%2Ffamily-tree%2Fperson%2Ftree%2F164419278%2Fperson%2F142141572745%2Ffacts%2Fcitation%2F582195693288%2Fedit%2Frecord . I'll edit the biography to include the Will.

Patricia, thank you so much!!! I've been trying to get this family together so that it's all correct. Lots of merging and such.

You're awesome!

Randee
