Alexander Stewart was born about 1551 in Garlieston, Wigtownshire, Scotland. He was the son of Alexander Stewart and his wife Katherine Herries.
His father died in 1571, never holding the title Laird Garlies, Alexander inherited the title from his grandfather, and became 6th Laird of Garlies. Some sources list him as 6th.[1]
He married second, the Lady Elizabeth Douglas, daughter of David, Earl of Angus, and widow of Robert, Lord Maxwell.[5] There were no children from the marriage to Alexander. Found on page 159 of reference [1]

Stewart-15084 and Stewart-2016 appear to represent the same person because: the same family relationship to father spouse and one sibling William Stewart 1597
re: children of Stewart-2016 - I agree, which is why I placed references for children not originally cited as being his issue in the free-space. As for the Burke's (2003) reference it's not available as an ebook so I couldn't link to the source, just a secondary source.
Stewart-3677 (Patrick) - is with the wrong family - working with the other manager to get this straightened out.
Thomas, John and Barbara are not listed as Alexander's children in the version of Burke's Peerage that I could access. There should probably be a note added that these are questionable, or there should be further research. If someone has actually been able to look up Barbara's entry in Burke's, 2003, that's fine. I just don't want to cite a source second hand. Thanks.
Michelle, I think that Patrick is not the son of this Alexander. I have asked a question on G2G, and I propose to disconnect him and build the line to the correct father and ancestors.
