Robert Stewart was born in 1378, he was the son of Sir Alexander Stewart of Darnley and his first wife Marguerite Turnbull.
Robert Stewart of Newtoun, received from his father a charter of the lands of Newtoun of Westoun, in the shire of Lanark, to himself and his heirs-male, whom failing, to his brother, James.
He was the ancestor of the Stewarts of Barscube, Binnie and Milton.
