Stewart-47493 and Stewart-2717 appear to represent the same person because: Please merge these two people. Research has shown as posted on Stewart-2717 page as being the same as 47493. I too have researched on other sites and spotted the error yesterday, he is my 7th Grandfather via his son Joseph (Stewart-2730). People have placed them as brothers, when they are the same person. This creates errors when trying to assemble trees. Also the father of Stewart-2717 is incorrect but the father of 47493 is the correct father [Stewart-47494].

Thank you,

Stewart-47493 and Stewart-2717 do not represent the same person because: Charles Steward/Stewart, born in VA, who married Hannah Kirk, probably also born in VA, is not the same person who was born within a few years of his birth in Scotland. The FTDNA Stewart Project has also definitively proven Charles Stewart/Hannah Kirk to his parents Charles Steward/Stewart and Mary Proctor.

Johanna Hannah (Kirk) Stewart (abt.1732-1823) is connected to both profiles as his spouse. Which person did she marry? Find A Grave pages for both Charles and Hannah indicate that, at least initially, they thought Charles was born in Scotland, not Virginia. His text states he was born in Scotland, but the date and location at top have Virginia. Her page states she may have been born in Wales and DNA testing indicates Charles was not born in Scotland. Those 2 pages have probably caused the confusion with the wikitree profiles.

Sources are needed, if possible, for both profiles

Hi Linda, I added a couple of sources to this Charles Stewart's (born in Scotland) page to hopefully add a little clarity because, as you say, he is also shown to be a spouse to Johanna Kirk. The first source is from a genealogy.com forum from 2007 right after the FTDNA Stewart Project, which began in 2002, was completed. This link will explain how Stewart family historians came to believe that Charles Stewart and Johanna Kirk sailed to VA in a 50' boat, and that Johanna was born in "Whales". The second source is the FTDNA Stewart Project which shows the Charles Stewart definitive descendant DNA link to Charles Stewart and Mary Proctor, Charles Steward b:1690/1700, and others.

I previously attached the documents I was able to locate for Charles Stewart (born in VA) and Johanna Kirk to their pages.

As best I can tell from research and family stories; the problem here is the father in this listing is incorrect. Stewart-47494 is the correct father for this listing and the Stewart-47493 listing. Thereby this listing needs to be merged with 47493 in order for the father to be correctly reflected. There has always been a confusion with this due to family misunderstanding of history and later locating a different Charles Stewart (who had a brother Patrick both fighting in the War for Independence and moving to Georgia or Alabama, I can't recall which state) It was later resolved with the aid of internet and Ancestry.com that these two individuals were getting mixed up as we can tell from all the comments and additional research sources.

Through Stewart 47494 this Charles 2717 had as children: 1. Elizabeth Stewart Clements (1752–1826) 2. Charles Stewart (1758–1843) 3. Joseph Stewart (1762–1820) Stewart-2730 my 7th Great Grandfather 4. George Stewart (1768–1831) 3. James Stewart (1775–1867) 5. William Stewart (1772-x) 6. John Stewart (1776-1776) 7. Ruben Stewart (1779-1839)

Hope this helps,

Misty and Gerrie, Any help you can give me in correcting Charles Stewart's parentage to Charles Steward and Mary Proctor would be much appreciated. I'm not sure I even know where to begin! Thank you.

Stewart-2717 and Stewart-23878 are both referencing the same FindAGrave memorial as source. Their children are different however. I'd advise the PMs to look into this

I have removed Rev James Stewart and Elizabeth Campbell as parents. What little paper trail exists this appears to be according to letters written is not the Charles Stewart of the Reverend. Dna evidence now supports that he is likely the son of Charles Stewart and Mary Proctor. If new evidence becomes available to support the Rev being his father they can be added back. Links to them are under the sources.

Apparently, Charles Stewart (1728 VA - 1807) who was married to Johanna Kirk does not appear to be the son of Rev. James Stewart and Elizabeth Campbell. I refer to the link under External Links. It looks like he was the son of Charles Stewart and Mary Proctor of Spotsylvania, Virginia. The son of James Stewart and Elizabeth Campbell apparently was a ship captain who traveled to Africa and lived in Scotland.

This is being studied under the Stewart Surname DNA Study (see External Links).

Stewart-12088 and Stewart-2717 appear to represent the same person because: Clear Duplicate. Variation in place of birth to be noted in biography until a source can be found
Stewart-14543 and Stewart-12088 appear to represent the same person because: same name, and spouse
