Biography

Mary Ann was born about 1815 in Virginia. (one record says 15 April 1815 but the source is not given) Census records show Mary as age 34 in 1850; age 45 in 1860 ^{[1] [2]}

She was mentioned 1828 in the will of her father Absolum Stewart, "I do bequeath to my fifth daughter Mary Stewart one dollar to her and her heirs forever..." ^[3]

Her first marriage was recorded in Lawrence Co KY 26 June 1830 William Evans to Mary Stewart. ^[4]

The second marriage was to John Arms 13 October 1852, Carter County, Kentucky ^[5]

It is not clear but Mary may have married three times, however no record for the marriage to her third husband can be found. She was listed as Mary Gullett, widow, while living with her son John Arms in the 1900 census ^[6]

In the 1860 census Mary A. Arms age 45 is listed in the household of John Arms, age 84, ore digger, b NC. The children listed are George W. Arms, age 15, Emily Arms age 14 and John Arms age 6. Actually George W. and Emily were children of William Evans and their surname should be Evans. Both George Evans and Emily Evans are found in the household of Mary Evans in the 1850 census. ^[7]

In the 1910 census for Coal Grove Village, Lawrence County, Ohio, Mary Arms was a resident of the Lawrence County Infirmary. She was age 98, birthplace unknown, father born unknown, mother born unknown.

Death Record, Mary Arms, Lawrence County, Ohio 22 Jan 1914. ^{[8] [9]} She was buried in the Newton Cemetery, Coal Grove, Lawrence County, Kentucky.^[10]

Jim Stephenson, son of Frank Stephenson, is a fourth cousin of Connie Graves and they match on Chr 2 for 5.1 cM, MRCA = 7.7 William Lee Evans Jr and Mary Ann Stewart.
