William was born in 1829. He passed away in 1906.

William Gordon Stewart was the Son of: Gordon Stewart- and Ann Taylor Gordon Stewart was the son of Alexander Stewart

William Gordon Stewart married : Thursia Ann Lee March 1851-Daughter of James Lee Not long after his marriage to Thursia they relocated to Ware County Georgia and lived there for 12 to 15 years in the portion that became Bacon County in 1914

William Gordon Stewart served as Receiver of Tax Returns and Tax Collector of Ware County Ga. 1859-1861 (Offices combined)

William Gordon Stewart enlisted as a Volunteer in Company "K", 26th Georgia , Regiment, C.S.A., October 1-1861, and in the organization of the Company was elected 2nd Lieutenant. The terms of the enlistment was for 6 months.. He retired April 1-1862 when the Company was re-organized for the duration of the War. He then served again as Tax Collector of Ware County 1864-1866 About 1870 he moved back to Appling County and bought land in the 5th District in the portion that had been made into Bacon County. His Land was located between Hurricane Creek and Little Hurricane Creek. He owned a Large Plantation and Two Story Home, a Mill Pond with a Water Mill, where the neighbors could get their corn ground He and His Wife were members of Mount Pleasant Church for many years until their death. William Gordon Stewart for eleven years was a Member of the Waresboro Lodge of Masons known as Waresboro Lodge Number 217 He received his degree in it in 1859 and was demitted in July 5 1870. Whether he ever affiliated with another lodge is not known-but possibly didn't due to the opposition of his Church to Masonry

The Folder of Records is on File at the Statesboro Genealogical Library-Bulloch Co Ga.

He is buried in Patterson Cemetery, Bacon County, GA.
