John Stewart was born on 24 November 1667 in Charlestown, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, British Colonial America.
He plied the trade of a carpenter and later became proficient as a surgeon and as such was referred to as Dr John. (No formal qualification found).
He passed away on 1 November 1704 in Lewes, Sussex County, Delaware, British American Colonies and was buried at the Lewes Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lewes, Sussex County, Delaware, British American Colonies.
John Stewart was married to Elizabeth Alberti about 1690 in Long Island City, Queens County, New York, British American Colonies.
Children of Dr. John Stewart and his wife Elizabeth Alberti (Albertis, Albertus);
Dr. John Stewart still lived in New York in 1686 when his father was a witness to a land transaction between Adam Wright & William Buckler.
Townsend & John Newman.
John Townsend & Adam Wright were of the Townsend & Wright families that were also related to the Stewarts.
Sometime before 1697 the family had moved to Monmouth Co., New Jersey, in the town of Shrewsbury. Shortly after the family arrived in Monmouth Co., (Dr. John Stewart) became the High Sheriff of the County. In 1700, he became the High Sheriff of Monmouth Co., New Jersey & held the position until sometime in 1702, when he was succeeded by Jonathan Bailey. It is not known whether he lost the election to Bailey or if he chose not to run for the office again. However, later Bailey was killed and John became the High Sheriff again, & held the office for 18 years. (Per Joyce Lindstrom: This is doubtful as John died in 1704 in Sussex Co., Del.)
On 8-27-1700, the grand jury indicted Richard Salter & 14 other men "for riotously assembling on the 17th day of July & assaulting John Stewart, High Sheriff, & Henry Leonard on the path near to the house of Alexander Adams, beat & grievously wounded the said persons, took their swords from them, break them, & carried them away & kept them, to the value of 5 pounds money of the province in breach of the peace & the terror of the King's league people." The above indictment is recorded in the New Jersey Historical Society Coll., F. 853.626, Pg. 352).
Dr. John Stewart made a will with James Simpson, Samuel Knowles & Roger Corbett as witnesses. In his will, proved in court, in Sussex Co., Delaware 1-13-1705, he listed as one of his children, William
The will includes references to property in Monmouth County, New Jersey and to farms in Queens County, Nassau, Long Island, New York. It gives his executor -- wife Elizabeth Stuart -- full and ample power to sell property It appoints friends as exercisers (agents of Executor?) Alexander Innes of Middleton, East New Jersey and Levin Morris of Shrewsbury, East New Jersey
They will also ask his wife to bring up their children “in the fear of God and convenient learning as to be had in these American parts.”

Dr. John’s son Samuel Stewart does not descend from Alexander Stewart either.
It is a disservice to Alexander to use the speculations plural. By serious standards of genealogical proof, no proof of parents, birthplace or birthdate is provable from Alexander's records. If all the parents and birthdates that had been attached had been left, he could have had at least 10 different sets of parents and birthdates—based on whoever's speculations. NO American record proves his parents. NO Scotland record proves his parents and lots of people had his name. Let's use high standards of genealogical proof rather than all the speculation. Thee University of Durham is doing a scholarly DNA study of Stewarts in Scotland and Scottish prisoners of war because there is no proof of parents for most of the Scottish prisoners of war who ended up in Massachusetts. There going to a lot of unnecessary effort if all this stuff online had been proven which it has not. The sources posted here were making a 3 different person "Scottish" identity based on similar names but not based on historical fact which shows the differences. Until proof is realized by scholarly research, let's let him be who he was, Alexander Stewart, tailor of Charlestown and Marlborough and use only his proven sources.

Perhaps Suzanne Reed, Linda Perry, or Herbert Wolfe know how to correct this? I do not, sorry.
I suggest the difference may be due to Old Style 1704/05 dating for the first three months of the modern calendar -- year didn't change over until March 25 rather than Jan. 1
Clearly, Jeannette Forsythe, b. 1655, who married Robert Stewart (same birth year), cannot be the mother of Dr. John Stewart, born in about 1660.
Vic
Thank you.
My records as well as those of others with good reference support the parentage I have presented. I have no wish to change them based on my inquiry.
