James Madison Stewart, son of Sylvester Stewart and Mindwell (Baxter) Stewart, was born circa 1820 at New York, USA..[1] He appeared on the census of 20 Aug. 1850 in the household of his parents at Woodhull, Steuben Co., New York.[2]
He married Weathy A. Bly, daughter of Stephen T. Bly and Elizabeth B. (Andrews) Bly, circa 1858.[3]
He appeared on the census of 25 June 1860 in the household of Sylvester Stewart and Mindwell Baxter at Woodhull, Steuben Co., New York.[4] He was a private in Company K 86th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment "Steuben Rangers", US Civil War.[3] He and Weathy appeared on the census of 23 July 1870 at Woodhull, Steuben Co., New York.[5]
James died on 10 May 1873 and was buried at Red School District Cemetery, Woodhull. [3] His memorial has links to those of his parents and his wife and has recognition of his military service:"G.A.R. Flag, Pvt Co K 86 Reg NYSV "[6][7]
