Biography

Daughter and wife of a coal miner

Elizabeth was born in 1877. Elizabeth Stewart ... She passed away in 1921. She died very young as a result of a major stroke. She had returned to England while Adam Bell continued his activism and support for the mining communities throughout North America. It is thought that she became home sick and lonely for the family and friends that had been left behind upon her arrival in Canada. Our Bell family showed kind and caring emotions toward her.

Elizabeth Stewart birth place: The Lang Village" 'The Village of Dipton, which lies about 12 miles south west of Newcastle, between the mining and steel making towns of Stanley and Consett, is much older than its name. It was not until 12 September 1883 that the Parish of Dipton was formed. It consisted of the straggle of houses making up the hamlets of Dipton, Colliery.

Elizabeth died at 12 Victoria Tearrace, Catchgate, Co Durham and was buried 25th July 1921, aged 44 years

Headstone Inscription In loving memory of MARGARET TOUGH the beloved wife of ALEXANDER STEWART of Annfield Plain died Oct 11 1899. aged 50 years also of the above ALEXANDER STEWART who was killed at South Derwent Colliery Oct 8 1903, aged 54 years also GEORGE their son who was killed at the same colliery Feb 14 1884, aged 14 years also of JESSIE their daughter who died Feb 1 1892, aged 5 years also of ELIZABETH STEWART beloved wife of ADAM BELL who died July 21 1921, aged 44 years
