Biography

Edwin Walter Stickney was born on Jan. 3, 1894 to Nelson Edward Stickney and Annie Hermanson. His mother died in 1901.

In 1913, his father took a homestead south of Bowdon in Wells County, North Dakota.

When the United States entered the war, Edwin was a member of the North Dakota National Guard, but these units were split up as a part of the great National Army scheme, and he was assigned to the 18th Infantry of the 1st Division.[1]

PFC Stickney trained at Fort Lincoln and arrived overseas on December 1917. reaching France, his division entered upon the last stages of training and in January of the new year, went into action. from the time he first saw a front line up to the day he was wounded, Edwin Stickney was in action on several of the fronts on which many hard battles were fought. He was wounded in the battle of Cantigny. He died of his wounds in France on June. 13, 1918.[2] He is buried in Plot A, Row 14, Grave 14 at the Somme American Cemetery and Memorial in Bony, Departement de l'Aisne, Picardie, France.[3] [4]
