Samuel was born in June 1821 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. He is the son of John Stiles and Margaret Lynch. He passed away in May 1905 in Lincoln County, Tennessee and is buried in Stiles Cemetery, Smithland, Lincoln County.[1]
Samuel married Mary Cashion on 21 November 1841 in Lincoln County, Tennessee.[2] They had children:

Samuel enlisted in the Civil War as a Captain on 16 December 1861 first in Company I, 44th Tennessee Infantry Regiment, CSA. He was next in Company A, 44th Tennessee Infantry Regiment, CSA from 18 April 1862 until 1865.[3][4][5]

Note N591[lindell-herndon.FTW] Obituary appears in the 18 May edition of the Fayettville Observer which seems to confirm the approximate death date and place and states that Samuel Stiles was a confederate veteran.
