Samuel was born in June 1821 in Lincoln County, Tennessee. He is the son of John Stiles and Margaret Lynch. He passed away in May 1905 in Lincoln County, Tennessee and is buried in Stiles Cemetery, Smithland, Lincoln County.^[1]

Samuel married Mary Cashion on 21 November 1841 in Lincoln County, Tennessee.^[2] They had children:
