Research Notes
Her maiden name is "Stiles" when she wed Aaron Day Wade in the Marriage Record of the First Presbyterian Church, Newark, New Jersey, dated 17 Jul 1827.
The Minister's Return to the Essex County Clerk has her maiden name written with a very long cross bar on the "t", and it crosses the "l" making her name appear to be "Stites". This style of cross bar must have been a characteristic of the minister's writing style because it is used throughout the document. A number of earlier researchers apparently used the Minister's return and recorded her maiden name as "Stites". This created a difficult situation because her family was not named, and some found a family with the surname "Stites" and connected her to those persons as her parents.
