William was born in 1888 in Dodd City Township, Marion, Arkansas, United States. He is the son of Virgil and Anna Stillwell.
William married Stella Waltmann (Stillwell) (1888 -1930) on 23 Dec. 1915 in Marion County, Arkansas. The couple had at least two children.[1] Their names are William Jeremiah Stillwell, Jr. (1918-1937) and Newell William Stillwell (1919-2000). After Stella's death in 1930, her remains were buried in Citizens Cemetery, Prescott, Yavapai County, Arizona, USA.[2]
At age 28, on 5 June 1917, he registered for the World War I Draft. At that time, he worked as a miner. The draft registration record shows his date of birth as 14 Jul. 1888, whereas the burial information specifies 14 Jul 1887. Of the two sources, only one was available to William to correct if wrong. William cited "bad teeth" as a reason to be exempt from the draft.
By 1920, at age 31, he was working as a machinist in a factory.[3] Evidently, he was the only member of the household who was working.
William applied for Social Security on 16 Jul 1953. [4] His birth date here is listed as 14 Jul 1888.
William Died of coronary insufficiency on 22 Feb 1959 in Stockton, San Joaquin California, USA.[5]
His remains are buried in the Stockton Rural Cemetery, Stockton, San Joaquin County,
California, USA; Plot: Block 10A.[6][7]
