Rev. William died 9 Mar 1823 in Richmond, Maine. He was a son of Deacon Robert Stinson and Mary (Payne) Stinson. Rev. William Stinson married first on 4 Jan. 1784 to Sarah Perry (1765-1792), and second to Abiah Macomber whom he married on 13 April 1792. He was most likely the minister of the Second Church of Bowdoin when he married his sister Mary to Samuel Lovejoy on 29 Oct 1795.
Rev. William and Sarah had children including:
Rev. William and Abiah had children, all born in Bowdoin, Sagadahoc County, Maine, including:
There has understandably been a great deal of confusion regarding Rev. William Stinson and his wife and children. That is because Rev. William Stinson has been confused with his first cousin William Stinson -- both Williams married daughters of Rev. Job Macomber. Some trees also confuse yet another William Stinson (1756-1833), husband of Mary Fullerton, with these other two William Stinsons. (The Stinsons are a very tangled/intermarried Ulster Scots family.)
Stackpole's old "Macomber Genealogy", page 27, shows that Rev. William Stinson (1758-1823) married ABIAH Macomber on 13 April 1792, while his first cousin William Stinson (1760-1825) married Abiah's younger sister ABIGAIL Macomber on 5 March 1794. Abiah and Abigail are not just different spellings of the same person's name, and Town Records clearly distinguish the families of Abiah and her sister Abigail.
To make matters even more complicated, Rev. William's brother Robert Stinson married Abiah's and Abigail's older sister Priscilla Macomber, while Rev. William's and Robert's cousin William Stinson had a brother named Charles Stinson, who married Abigail's younger sister Lydia Macomber. So, two sets of brothers who were first cousins all married four of the daughters of Rev. Job Macomber.
Rev. William died 20 Oct. 1758. He should not be confused with his cousin William Stinson, born March 1760, son of James Stinson and Mary Robinson and the husband of Abigail Macomber whom he married on 5 Mar 1794. Rather, Rev. William Stinson married first on 4 Jan 1784 to Sarah Perry (1765-1792) and second on 13 April 1792 to Abiah Macomber (older sister of Abigail).
