The 1900 census for their named mother, Lillian Louise (Bauknight) Stoddard, show her and her husband William Stoddard, living in the household of her mother, Mary E Bauxnight, and indicates they have been married 15 years, but no presence of any children with last name Stoddard is shown.

There are two children, Charlie W Bauxnight and John E Bauxnight, indicated as sons of Mary, and brothers of Lillian. Both are shown too old to be born during a marriage then of 15 years, and Charlie is given an age 28, with Lillian an age of 39; it is unlikely she had a child at age about 11. The younger brother, John, has an age given as 22; Lillian would have been about 17.

There is an 11-year gap in the ages of Lillian and Charlie, and a 18-year gap between Lillian and John. Mary would have been about 18 at the birth of Lillian, 29 at the birth of Charlie, and 35 at the birth of John.

So, taking the 1900 census names, relationships and dates at face value, it appears that Charles and John are not children of William T. and Lilian Louise Stoddard, but rather of Mary E Bauknight, Lillian being their sister, not their mother.
