Biography

Patsy is her name given in the 1870 Federal census in Williamsburg Co., South Carolina, and on the death certificates of two of her children, Colon Ard and Letha Louise Browder. Her name may also be Patricia or Martha, as Patsy was a common nickname for Martha during this time period.

Patsy was born about 1839, based on her age given in the 1870 Federal census in the household of her husband, Peter Browder, in Williamsburg Co., South Carolina.

Patsy was married first to John Ard, after 1850, very likely in Williamsburg Co., South Carolina. John Ard died sometime before 1870. John Ard and Patsy Ard are listed as the parents of Colon Ard on Colon's South Carolina Death Certificate in 1922.

Patsy and John Ard are possibly the parents of the following children: Colon, born ca. 1855/1860; and Rebecca Celia, born ca. 1863.

Patsy married Peter P. Browder sometime before 1870. Patsy, age 31, and the following children are shown in the household of Peter P. Browder in the 1870 Federal census in Williamsburg Co., South Carolina: Colon age 9; Celia age 7; and Susan age 3. All of the children are listed with the Browder surname in this census, and in later census' with the Ard surname.

Patsy and Peter Browder are possibly the parents of the following children: Susan, born ca. 1867; Letha (Alletha) Louise, born ca. 1870; Benjamin Eston, born ca. 1878. The South Carolina Death Certificate, file no. 08141, of Letha Louise Browder, (married Wade Browder), list Peter Browder as her father and Patsey Stone as her mother.

Patsy died sometime before the 1880 Federal census. Patsy is not listed in the 1880 U.S. Federal Mortality Schedule for Williamsburg Co., South Carolina. Patsy was deceased before June, 1880 when the Peter Browder's household was enumerated for the 1880 Federal census in Williamsburg Co., as Peter is listed as head of the household and is listed as widower.
