This profile is part of the Stone Name Study.

Richard Stone Richard Stone was born in Virginia about 1719 (see Sons of the American Revolution document below) and died in 1797. He married Mary Wynne. He has been detached from William Stone III as father.

From the Daily Press. Newport News, Virginia. May 11, 1982, Sun. Page 92. As already observed, members of the Winn (Wynne, Wynn) family married several times into the Stone family. The progenitor of this particular branch of the family was William Stone, planter, of Bruton Parish, York Co., Va., probably a descendant of Gov. William Stone of Maryland. The will of William Stone of Bruton Parish, dated 11-25-1729, prob. 2-6- or 16-1729 (York Co., Va. Wills, Orders, etc. 17, I. 44) names wife Sarah and their children William, Ashwell, Elizabeth, and Mary. The younger William Stone (b. 1710), planter, and his wife Elizabeth, dau of John Roberson, migrated from York through Henrico, Goochland, and Cumberland counties to Lunenburg Co. (Va.) where he died (inventory of his estate recorded 3-3-1761. Lunenburg W.B. 2, p73), leaving at least three sons, William Jr., John, and Richard.

The wife of Richard Stone, son of William and Elizabeth, was named Mary, probably Mary Yancy. Their children were:

1. Richard Stone, m. (1) Elizabeth, m. (2) Jincy Winn.
2. Thomas Stone, m. Millinder Winn.
3. Anna Stone, m. Richard Townsend.
4. Phoebe Yancy Stone, m. Minor Wilks.
5. Mary Stone, m. Elisha Estes.
6. Edith Lavinia Stone, m. William Winn Cockerham (see Boddie Historical Southern Families, III, 1959, 185).
7. Elizabeth Stone, m. James Pulliam.
8. Susanna Stone, m. John Lester.
9. Letitia Stone, m. Peter Winn
10. Ann Stone, m. Philip Snead.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Richard by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Richard:

Please read the attached Winn and Stone Family Newspaper article. It says the progenitor of this family was William Stone, planter, of Bruton Parish, York County, Virginia.

But William Stone-7196 of Accomack and Stafford, Virginia has been attached as his father, with absolutely no evidence. See my comment from yesterday, that William and his wife were married in 1727, but Richard was born in 1722. I have removed William Stone-7196 as his father.

What evidence do you have that Richard was the son of William Stone-7196? William and his wife Elizabeth Ann were married in 1727, but you show that Richard was born in 1722, five years before their marriage.

This profile refers to his brother, John Stone. The profile for William Stone-7196 lists his known children. None of them were named either Richard or John. If you don't have something connecting Richard to William and Elizabeth Ann Stone, would you please disconnect them as his parents. Thanks!

Stone-25957 and Stone-673 appear to represent the same person because: The birth dates are different. but in my records, the Richard Stone born in 1722 was married to Mary Jane Yancy Wynne. I do have a marriage record that states Richard Stone, b. 1723 married Mary Yancy.

Please resolve the mismatch between the birth dates of the parents and children. Error messages are appearing that say too young or not born yet? Thank you, Mary

Hi Mary, Will you please remove William as the father of Richard? The birth dates don't work.

I believe it's best to remove Richard's parents for now.

I am not the Project Manager for this project. I am just trying to clear errors on the WIKI System. I left a message on the profile for William III and had a reply from the manager that he will work on this in a few weeks? Thank you, Mary

I've detached Richard from his nine year old father.

Bill is my husband. We are working together on our Wiki profiles. He and I agree that removing the parents is the best way forward at this point. I was able to remove the mother, but couldn't remove the father because it was "protected". I'm not sure how to fix this.

Sincerely,

Krista and Bill James

The parents on this profile were too young, both born only four years before Richard's estimated birth date. I noticed the profile says they were "possibly his parents."

Is there anyone else who could have been his parents? Is there any possibility that the dates are wrong? SAR says 1719, DAR says circa 1720. That buys us a few more years, but not quite enough.

( I'm just trying to clear up the 205 and 305 errors...)

Stone-15152 and Stone-673 appear to represent the same person because: same name, same spouse, same Will

Believe Richard is connected to the wrong spouse, Mary Wynne borne 1708 and he could not have married her when he was 1 year old.
