Richard Stone “gives and bequesths to my beloved wife “Jincy” Stone ten negroes- also give to my wife all my stock of cattle, hogs, horses, and sheep and plantation.”
He gave the plantation to “Jincy” upon the condition that after her death the property pass to his sons Richard Stone Jr., Thomas Stone and Peter Winn Stone.
Peter Winn Stone owned a plantation at Hunter’s Point, Sumner County, Tenn., and married Lettie Winn on Nov. 13, 1831 in Lunenburg Co.
One account records Nov. 13, 1837. One side of the Stone family reports that he was first married to a Miss Sarah Ragsdale, however, no proof has been found.
I have written to obtain additional information concerning the ancestor of Richard Stone. One William Stone, Parish of Bruton in the County of York, Va.” DOW Bk. #17 (1729-32), P.44 as recorded for both Dr. Allen Cabaniss and myself have concluded the same, that members of the Wynne family have married into the Stone family.
There is little doubt that this William Stone owned a plantation in the area known as the “Middle Plantation” and in his will of Nov. 25, 1729 probated March 16, 1729 names wife Sarah Stone, son William, Ashwell, Elizabeth and Mary. His son William was the father of Richard Stone.
The Bruton Parish records record the deaths of both William of York and Sarah. Family tradition says we were related to William Stone, governor of Maryland. We have tried to find the connection and proof.
Recently in going over the York County, Va. records, I located the original inventory of estate of William Stone’s will taken March 10, 1729/30. One of the many items attracted my attention to one carbine, 1 pr. Pistols and holsters, a sword and belt. These weapons are no doubt Fling Lock.
