James Stone, son of Ebenezer Stone and Margaret Trowbridge, was born 8 Jun 1704[1] in Newton, Massachusetts.[2][3]

He graduated from Harvard College in 1724, was a schoolmaster in Framingham in 1725 and was ordained pastor of the First Church in Holliston, Massachusetts on 20 Nov 1728.[1][3]

He married at Framingham, Massachusetts on 15 Apr 1731 to Elizabeth Swift[4] (d. 1739), daughter of Rev. John Swift of Framingham, and the couple had three children:[1][3]

  1. John, b. 21 Jun 1732, d. 1 Aug 1817, m. Mary ___, 4 ch.;
  2. Elizabeth, b. 13 May 1735, m. Rev. Phillips Payson 1758 in Weston MA, 5 ch.;
  3. Nevinson, b. 17 May 1736/7, d. 8 Dec 1749.

James was married second in Sudbury, Massachusetts on 19 Dec 1740 to Sarah Brown.[5] There were no children from this marriage.[3]

James died 28 Jul 1742[1] in Holliston[3] and is buried at Central Burying Ground in Holliston.[6]

On 26 Apr 1743, administration of James' estate was granted to his widow, Sarah, and his brother-in-law, Ebenezer Woodward. After Sarah's death, James' land was transferred to his son, John Stone on 14 Sep 1753 with John to pay his sister, Elizabeth, half its value (£638-5-11).[3]

for Traci and Jennifer

James had one daughter too many (the mistake comes from Find A Grave ..). I took the liberty of making amends by giving Sarah her real parents. Greetings to my two cousins :-)
