Following a long illness, Mrs. Kathryn Stone McKinley, age 86, widow of John L. McKinley, died Tuesday noon at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Mark S. McKinley, Canal township. Mrs. McKinley was the daughter of Stephen and Mary Crocker Stone and was born at Sharon on February 10, 1857 [sic]. Her father followed the oil business in the early days and her childhood was mostly spent at Calloway on the old Smith farm. On January 2, 1874[sic], she was united in marriage to John L. McKinley, late of Frenchreek township and Polk. She was a member of the Waterloo Presbyterian church at Polk for many years. Mrs. McKinley was a nurse at Polk State school for a long time and had many friends in the community. She was a member of Minnie Rebekah lodge. During the past five years she had been retired, __ing most of her time with her sisters, Dr. Georgia Wade and Mrs. Lillian Brigham of Oconto, Neb. She was also a sister of the late Dr. Harry S. Stone, who was a doctor in the city of Franklin for many years. Possessed of a gracious nature, she was endeared to many, and the news of her death Tuesday came as a sad shock to those who appreciated her fine qualities. Surviving are three children: Mark S. McKinley, of Canal township; Dr. Ethel M. Bolton of Sioux City, Iowa; and Mrs. Lillian M Briggs, of Chicago Heights, Ill; two sisters, Dr. Georgia Wade and Mrs. Lillian Brigham of Oconto, Neb; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.Two of the grandchildren are in the armed service. John L. McKinley in England, and Mark S. McKinley, Jr. in Fort Bliss, Texas.The body was removed in the ___ron chapel, where services will be held at a time to be announced later.Friends may call at any time. [2]
