John Stone, the Immigrant, received a land grant in 1725 in what was to become Caroline County, Virginia. John died in 1737, and his wife Mary was the executor of the estate. His estate was probated on 13 January 1737/8 in Caroline County, Virginia.[1]
John Stone may have been the same John Stone that was included as one of 10 headrights on a Land Patent claimed by James Taylor in 1695. It was not unusual for people to wait years before claiming, and there are other records that suggest there was some association between James Taylor and John Stone. This land patent was dated 21 Apr 1695 and can be viewed through the Library of Virginia: https://lva.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=alma990008303810205756&context=L&vid=01LVA_INST:01LVA&lang=en&search_scope=MyInstitution_noAER&adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&tab=LibraryCatalog&query=any,contains,James%20Taylor%201695&sortby=title

Also in 1704, the Quit Rent Rolls for King and Queen County list John Stone with 295 acres and Mary Stone 100 acres. (Mary’s 100 acres is probably the 100 acres left by Thomas O’Brissell to his grandson, John Stone, who is not yet of age and sold in September). Same name, parents. One profile gives no sources. The other cites only a user-submitted Family Tree Maker filename. Without further support, that is not a very credible source. It is also inaccessible for other researchers, given that it is nothing but a filename. If that file cites better sources, please add them to this profile.
