Biography

Abner Stone was born on the 15th April, 1791 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.[1] Abner is the son of Jesse Stone and Susannah (Suckey) Lightfoot.

Abner married Abigail Jordan in Lincoln County, Georgia on the 19th of January, 1817. Note, Abigail's maiden name is spelled Jourdan in the marriage record.[2]

Abner is listed in the 1818 Tax Digest of Lincoln County, Georgia, with no slaves, 172 acres of land which adjoined the land of Levi Jordan, and was located on the water course of Cherokee Creek. The tax for the land was 49 1/2 cents.[3]

Abner appears in the 1850 Federal census in Dallas county, Alabama. Abner's household appears as follows: Abner age 60, occupation: farmer; Abigail age 62; son, J.A. Stone age 23, occupation: farmer; and son Levi Stone age 19, occupation: farmer.[4]

Abner appears in the 1860 Federal census in Dallas county, Alabama. Abner's household appears as follows: Abner age 69, occupation: farmer; Mrs A. (Abigail) age 72; also living with Abner and his wife were his son and his family: Levi Stone age 29, occupation: farmer; S.R. Stone (Susan R. Stone) age 29; J.A. Stone (James Abner Stone) age 5; R.E. (Rebecca Elizabeth Stone) age 3; and W.P. (William P. Stone) age 2.[5]

Abner died the 29th July 1861 in Dallas county, Alabama. Abner is buried in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Dallas county, Alabama.[6]
