Richard Stone was born the 12th of May 1749 in Brunswick county, Virginia. Richard is the son of Thomas Stone and Phebe Price.[1]
Richard married Elizabeth Threadgill on the 16th September 1771 in Surry county, Virginia.[2]
Richard's wife Elizabeth died sometime before 1784, as Richard married his second wife Delitha Gibbs on the 22nd of March 1784.[3]
Richard sold to William Watson on the 13th of July 1785 a tract of land in Brunswick county, Virginia containing one hundred acres for ". . . three thousand pounds of Inspected Crop Petersburg Tobacco . . ." The deed was signed by ". . . Richard Stone and Tabitha Stone (her mark), and witnessed by William Connell, Robert Watson, and Harry Wynn Jones (his mark). Brunswick County Court the 24th Day of October 1785. This indenture was acknowledged by Richard Stone & Tabitha his wife parties thereto and Ordered to be Recorded previous to which the said Tabitha being privately examined as the Law directs did Voluntarily assent thereto."[4]
Richard purchased on the 10th day of February 1786 from Joseph Williams of Brunswick county, Virginia for ". . . two thousand four hundred weight of Tobacco . . ." a tract of land containing an estimated twenty two acres.[5]
Richard sold approximately twenty-five acres to Edward Birchet on the 30th of May, 1788, in Brunswick County, Virginia. The deed reads in part as follows: "This Indenture made this 30th Day of May 1788 BETWEEN Richard Stone & Delthia his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and Edward Birchet of the said County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of thirty pounds . . . do grant bargain sell alien enfeoff & confirm unto the sd. Edward Birchet . . . one certain tract or parcel of Land situate lying & being in the County of Brunswick & bounded as follows BEGINNING at John George Pinington's line thence along his line to Sack Pinington thence along his line to the BEGINNING containing by estimation twenty five acres . . . Signed by Richd. Stone and Tabitha Stone (her mark) and witnessed by Sack Pinington, William Smith, and Nathl. Smith. Brunswick County Court March 24th 1790. This Indenture of Bargain & Sale was acknowledged by Richard Stone party thereto to be his act & deed and ordered to be recorded." [6]
Richard was a Constable of Brunswick county, Virginia in 1795.[7]
