William Adkerson Stone was born 22 January, 1850, in Edgefield County, South Carolina. William is the son of Thomas Stone, and Martha Johnson. William was called "Bill" by his parents, brothers and sister.
William appears in the 1850 Federal census in Edgefield County, South Carolina in the household of his father, Thomas Stone. William's age is given in the 1850 census as 8 months old, the enumeration date for William's family in the census was October, 1850.[1]
William's mother Martha died in Edgefield County, South Carolina before 1858, and William's father, Thomas Stone moved his family to Shelby County, Alabama in 1859.
William, age 20, appears in the 1870 Federal census in the household of his father Thomas Stone in Shelby county, Alabama.[2]
William met Louisa Narcisia Abbett, daughter of the Rev. Littleton Berry Abbett and Sarah Elizabeth Caroline Land, when he was working in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. The Abbett family subsequently moved to Louisiana, and when William returned home to the Four Mile Community in Shelby County, Alabama, he told his family about Louisa and that he wanted to marry her. William packed his belongings and left home for Louisiana.[3] William and Louisa Narcisia Abbett were married on the 16th of December, 1874.
William appears in the 1880 Federal census as head of household in Union Parish, Louisiana. William's household appears as follows: William age 30; Loueza age 25; Thomas L. age 3; and William P. age 5 months - birth month given as December. William's household was enumerated in June 1880, this would mean William P. was born in December 1879.[4]
William is in the 1900 Federal Census in Union Parish Louisiana and is listed as married but he is actually a widower, as Louisa had died in 1896.[5]
William Adkerson Stone died on the 27th of July, 1905, in Union Parish Louisiana, and is buried in the Camp Creek Cemetery, in Spearville, Union Parish, Louisiana.[6]
William and Louisa are the parents of: Thomas Littleton Stone; William Pleasant Stone; Jessie Stone; Berson Monroe Stone; Sarah Stone Senn; and Berry Abbett Stone.
