The household includes: James P Stone Head M 42 Texas; Lula Stone Wife F 33 Texas; Jim Stone Son M 11 Texas; Gladys Stone Daughter F 8 Texas; Roma Stone Daughter F 5 New Mexico; Stone Son M 0 New Mexico; Margie Burton Servant F 39 Texas.[1]

His father died in 1913, and his mother moved in with other family soon after that, leaving him to be raised primarily by his older sisters.

He is listed in the 1920 Census in Portales, Roosevelt, New Mexico. The household includes: J F Stone Head F 42 Texas; Jim Stone Son M 20 Texas; Gladys Stone Daughter F 18 Texas; Roma Stone Daughter F 14 New Mexico; Douglas Stone Son M 9 New Mexico. [2]

He attended New Mexico Military Institute for high school, boarding there in the mid 1920s.

He is listed in the Long Beach, CA 1930 census as 20 year old Douglas Stone, a clerk at an oil refinery living in a group home with Charles C Spencer, Bessie S Smith, Virginia A Smith, and Calvin Mcmallough.[3] Family stories indicate he worked at a bank at this time. It was around that time that he met his future wife, Dona [4].

On 27 Oct 1934 he married Dona Locke in Archer, Texas.[5] About a year later, while visiting Elida, NM as a couple, they stopped in to the bank that was founded by his late father. The president of the bank at the time, Mr. Click, had just had to fire his cashier, John Beeman, due to indiscretion with bank funds in a poker game, and offered the young Mr. Stone the vacant job. He took it on the spot, later becoming president and chief controlling interest in the family business, and living with his wife there until his death 50 years later.

He is listed in the 1940 Census in Portales, Roosevelt, New Mexico. The household includes: Douglas B Stone Head M 30 New Mexico; Dona L Stone Wife F 30 Texas; Douglas Barry Stone Son M 2 New Mexico.[6]

He served in WWII in Africa and Italy and spent some time missing in action.

Douglas Stone passed away 7 March 1981. [7]
