Note: According to the book "Stone & Related Families" page 7, by Lena Belle Stone (2003) George William Raines Stone was born in Washington County, Georgia November 24 1810 and died in 1878, in Atkinson County, Georgia. Apparently he married Nancy Howell, who states on her widows Confederate pension application that she had never been married before, though she did have a son when they married. The boy's name was William [Willy] Howell. Nancy married George in 1836 in Ware County, Georgia. Nancy was the daughter of Isham Howell and Nellie Penelope.
George was a private in Capt. David B. Miller's company of Ware County Militia in the Indian War, June 9th to August 19, 1838. He had come to Ware County when his father Henry had moved the family there. At different times he owned several plots of land in the 7th District, lots 288, 325, and 353. He lived on lot 325 for several years. He also resided in Clinch County, Georgia. After the war [Indian?] he moved up to Coffee County Near the location of the Mount Zion Baptist Church, which cemetery he was buried in when he died.
Lena Belle Stone made a note at this point asking; "Who is John Stone age 69 in 1910 and wife Edna R. Stone age 66 in 1910 in Berrien County, Georgia?"
Nancy filed her application for widow's pension in Berrien County, Georgia on November 24, 1892. She said she was then 80 years old July 27, 1892, and her post office was Mill Town, Berrien County, Georgia. She said her husband had served with Capt. David J. Miller's S Company of Ware County Militia in the Seminole Indian War. He had enlisted at Kettle Creek in Ware County and was honorably discharged at Fort Floyd, December 1, 1838. He was described a 5'6" high, blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, and a farmer. They were married in Ware County in 1836 and he died in Lowndes County . He was aged 27 nine months, and 27 days when he enlisted. He died 15 August 1873. Nancy drew $8.00 a month as pension every month until she died April 1901. She started receiving that pension 4 May 1899. She is buried in Lowndes County, Georgia.
