Biography

"Evening Journal", Muscatine, Iowa, July 18, 1873 pg 4 ANOTHER OCTOGENAMIAN GONE - Mrs. Catherine Klepper departed this life Feb. 9, 1873, at the advanced age of 86 years, 6 months and 11 days. The subject of this notice was born in Lancaster county, Pa., and soon after her marriage moved with her husband to Carlisle, Cumberland county, Pa., where she also spent the greater part of her life. Some 19 years ago she came with her two children, Mr. C. Klepper and Mrs. J. Hershe, to Muscatine county, Iowa. Mrs. K. was for over 50 years a consistent and devoted member of the United Brethren Church. A naturally sweet temper, santified by the grace of Christ, rendered her life a perpetual sunshine, and contributed much to the happiness of those around her. The closing nine years of her life were years of suffering, but she murmured not, she repined not, looking forward with a pious yearing to the Christian's everlasting noel. Mother Klepper lived to see her fifth generation, but retained to a remarkable degree, the vigor of her mental powers. A few hours before her decease she inquired the day of the month, and when told, she said, "It is just sixty years since my husband died." On consulting the family register, it was found to be within a few minutes of sixty years since his death. She is gone-gathered as a sheaf fully ripe for the heavenly garner. Friends are left to mourn her absence, but it is the mourning of hope, of joyful anticipation of meeting her again. "Where sadness and sorrow, pain and death are not and feared no more" May the devine comforter and guide be vouchsafed to her numerous surviving friends. "Asleep in Jeusu, far from thee, Thy Kindred and their graves may be, But thine is still a blessed sleep, from which none ever wake to weep".
