Biography

Hester Story

Birth (Confident)

Hester is the daughter of Larkin Story and Jane Mahan. Her name is listed as Easter, Ester and Hestor in various records. She can be found as a widow, Easter Miller in the 1920 census that lists her as age 61 born Missouri with her mother and father as born in Tennessee. Tracing back, I couldn't locate them in the 1910 census but in 1900 she is listed as Hester Miller born March 1855 in Missouri with her parents both born in Missouri. The 1890 census data is missing but in 1880, she is listed as Hester Miller in Ozark, Texas Co., Missouri age 22 born Missouri and both parents born in Tennessee.

Family Story by granddaughter, Dora Fern Mason

Both my grandmothers, Clarissa (Roberts) Mason and Hester (Story) Miller came from Missouri to Chelsea to live out their last days near their families. Both were widows, but very independent.

Grandma Miller lived nearby and we children visited her often. I remember helping her with the dishes. She made a pan of hot soapy water and the first thing she reached for, was a cooking pot. I said, "No, Grandma, Mama taught us to wash the glasses first, then the dishes and silver, then the pots". She retorted, "I want my pots to be just as clean as my dishes". As an eight year old, that made quite an impression on me.

Death (Confident)

She is buried in Chelsea Cemetery, Rogers Co. Oklahoma per her grandchildren. I was unable to locate her grave when I visited there in 1997 but Paul Mason said it was up on the hill from his parent's grave.
