Katherine was born in January 1881 in Kansas, United States. She was the daughter of Leonidas Stout and Matilda Jane Reynolds.[1]

On 1 March 1895 Katherine (age 14) was living in White Cloud, Doniphan, Kansas.[2]

When Katherine was about 15 she married James Wiley Rider in 1897.[1]
