Thomas Stout was born 4 March 1799 in Prince William County, Virginia. His birthdate is calculated from the age on his tombstone. He died 20 June 1872, age 73 years, 3 months, and 26 days.[1]
Thomas Stout married Mary (McQuaid) Shackleford on 25 December 1821 in Shelby County, Kentucky.[2] The marriage bond states that Polly R. Shackleford was the widow of John Shackleford. James McQuaid was the bondsman.[3] (John Shackleford married Mary "Polly" McQuaid, 20 Dec 1811.[4]
Sometime after 1830 (when he and his siblings sold his father's land[5]) and prior to 1840, Thomas moved his family to Morgan County, Indiana.
On 22 Aug 1832, Thomas and Polly, his wife, sold her interest in the dower land from her first husband, John Shackleford.[6] On 10 Feb 1834, Thomas Stout, and Polly, his wife, sold land that belonged to Polly, as widow of John Shackleford.[7] On 13 May 1847, Thomas Stout and Polly, his wife, sold to James McQuaid, their interest in the dower land of Ann McQuaid. [8]
