Conflict

From Hudson-Mohawk Genealogical and Family Memoirs

SOURCE: "Hudson-Mohawk Genealogical and Family Memoirs: Stout" +++This source has a lot of errors. Not a trusted source. It is here for reference+++

"Abraham, son of Jonathan (2) (John) and Permelia (Drake) Stout,[2] was born in Bound Brook, New Jersey, July 26, 1735, died in Ovid, Seneca county, New York, June 28, 1841, [3] at the great and unusual age of one hundred and six years, [4] almost equaling the years attained by his great-grandmother, Penelope Stout.[5] He settled in Seneca county early in life, and was a successful farmer.

  1. He married (first) January 11, 1754, Elizabeth Houghton, born July 5, 1735, died April 7, 1775, a descendant of John Houghton, who came in the ship "Abigail" from London in 1635 to the Massachusetts colony. Children:
    1. Solomon, born February, 1759, died March 30, 1777; was a soldier of the revolution and was killed in battle.
    2. Mary, May 30, 1762.
    3. Rachel, February 16, 1764.
    4. Joab, September 23, 1767.
  2. Abraham Stout married (second) Alice —————, in 1775, who died in January, 1777, at the birth of her only child,
    1. John."

More about Francis Drake

Francis Drake appears on the town records of Piscataway, New Jersey, in 1667-68, where he died about 1687. He married Mary —————, and had

  1. George and
  2. Rev. John. The latter married three wives and had thirteen children, ten of them sons.
    1. His eldest son John Drake, born June 2, 1678, married Sarah Compton and had six children, one of whom, Permelia Drake, born about 1708, married Jonathan Stout (John) and reared a large family.[6]

Notes and Thoughts

Hudson-Mohawk Genealogical and Family Memoirs has been known to have errors and mistakes. It is not trusted as a reputable source.

It states that John Stout married to Permelia Drake was the son of Jonathon Stout and Anne Bollen. I have not found any other source to back this claim. I believe it is incorrect. Other sources site his father as James Stout and Catherine Simpson, but that John Stout Stout-1881 married Rachel Merrill.Merrill-1739 [7]

No mention of a Permilia Drake in The History of the Stout Family by Nathan Stout. No Mention in Pioneers of Old Hopewell either.

See John Houghton StoutStout-345. Tthis is the correct data. See Permelia Drake StoutDrake-1081 This is the correct data. See Abraham Stout Stout-278 This the correct data.

Linda,

Since the Hudson-Mohawk Genealogical an Family Memoirs has been proven to have errors/discrepencies why keep this profile instead of correcting/validating info and merge 345 to 277 and have only one profile for the person. This one will create havoc if it is the only one a person sees. Sharon
