Biography

Maria Susanna was born 5 Oct 1753 in Bernville, Berks County, Pennsylvania. She was christened 21 Oct 1753 in Northkill, Berks County, with minister: John Caspar Stoever, and sponsors: Andreas Schade, Maria Susanna Haag.[1] She was the daughter of Albrecht Strauss and Maria Zerbe.[2]

She married 24 May 1774 to Benjamin Henry Kepner, or Kebner.[3] They had four children, only two of which were living when Benjamin made his will:

  1. Son 1 Kepner, died without progeny
  2. Son 2 Kepner, died without progeny
  3. John Kepner
  4. Benjamin Henry Kepner

In 1775 they lived in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania,[4] probably in the area that became Mifflin County in 1789. That part of Mifflin County became Juniata County in 1831.[5] In 1784 Benjamin bought land in Milford Township, near present-day Walnut.[6]

Her husband, Benjamin, died 22 Sep 1804 at Perrysville, Pennsylvania.[7] Perrysville was later Port Royal when that Post Office moved across Tuscarora Creek in 1847.[5]

Benjamin's estate was settled with an Article of Agreement, between his widow, Susannah S. Kepner, and their only two surviving sons, John and Benjamin. The Agreement follows.

An Article of Agreement made & concluded the 29th day of November A.D. 1804 by and between the widow, Susannah S.
