Biography

She was the 2nd daughter of Heinrich S Strauss, an early Manchester merchant from Frankfurt am Main and his wife Jette Kohn Speyer. She was only 34 when she was widowed with eight children under the age of 15. Her youngest child, Cyril, was only seven months old when his father died. As a widow she lived with Josephine Strauss, a member of her parents' family. Their household consisted of 14 people attended by nine servants.
