Native American

William Riley Stricklin's YDNA is Native American and matches the chief of the Wicocomico Indian Nation of Virginia, William Tapp ( Taptico) Virginia.

I think William Riley Stricklin was a grandson or great grandson of Tapp and was adopted into the Stricklin family.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

I am descended from William Riley Stricklin. My DNA line filters right in line with degree variance of being 7 degrees from Samuel C Stricklin and 6 degrees from William. my question to you all then is IF you say that William is not Samuel's child and that of William Tapp, then how is there a dna line from me to William to Samuel and all ancestors prior to Samuel. I know I have Native American blood in my line, but it comes from my grandmothers side. Nothing has pointed me in the direction of native blood on the stricklin side.

I believe William Riley Strickland is the son of Moses Strickland. More information here. https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/stricklin/732/
From what I have been told by others in the Stricklin line who have had DNA testing done, Samuel Clayton Stricklin cannot be the father of William Riley, as descendants of Samuel do not have the markers that match the downline of William Riley. Someone may want to revise this page accordingly, or check into it further. I would love to find the real names of William Riley's parents!

I have recently been working on this line. I think William Riley Stricklin was a Native American son or grandson of William Tapp, the last chief of the Wicocomico Indian Nation.

His Y-DNA rules out any biological relation to Samuel Clayton Stricklin. I am going to leave him as SCs son for now until I can find further proof.
