Research Notes

"Genealogies of Virginia Families" By Tylers Quarterly Historical and Geneological Magazine Patent to William Strouder, "of Norminy , Cooper" same 500 acres in westmoreland County "On the Southwest side of Herring Creek by some called Norminy River". Mentioned the land of William Pierce "opposite to mrs Youlla plantation, the same being due unto William Strouder by Patent dated the 27th of April 1658 and now renewed in his majesty's name by order of the Quarterly Court".ect. This patent was dated march 18 ,1662. It would seem that this William Strowder was a Cooper and lived at or near "Norminy". ( I am convinced that he was NOT identical with William Strother the founder of the family I have traced J.B.C.N.) A grant to Samuel Baker of 154 acres in Westmoreland Co, on the south side of the Norminie River, stated that William Strawther" died without heirs and not disposings of this land by will, Samuel Baker of the same County, who married the widow of the said Strawther, petitioned for the said land, stating that his entry was on Sept r, 1693, renewed by Capt Willoughby Allerton, his attorney. ( This land grant very plainly shows that this William Strother or Strawther was not the Not the identical with William Strother , the immigrant , who died on 1702) complied.

Added by Sandi Vines: After he died, his half-sister Mary Strother and her husband John Settle brought suit against William's widow and her second husband Samuel Baker for Mary's share of the estate. Believe John Settle lost.

I added a research note which I believe gives evidence that William Strother and Dorothy Savage were not Mary Strother Settles parents. I wish otherwise and it messes my genealogy up, but we are out to make our genealogies correct not what we wish was true :)

As much as want William Strother II to be Mary Strother Settle's father, I can find no documentation, and his will lists no females other than his wife.

Does someone have some type of documentation?
