Several people have had their autosomal DNA tested and are part of a triangulated group that traces their ancestry to William Stroud Sr. and Margaret Rose. William made his will on 4 Aug 1786 in Orange, NC. Leaves 5 shillings current money each to daughters Margaret Douglass, Mary Thrift and Salley King and son John Stroud. Leaves wife Elizabeth Stroud one "negroe girl named Clorice and her increase". Leaves the residue of estate in possession of wife on the following terms "to wit, that she keep possession of the plantation whereon I now live together with the use of one hundred acres of wood land adjoining the same to the northwest of the same during her natural life and that she retain possession of the residue of my estate real and personal for the purpose of educating and raising my youngest children until they arrive at full age and then to be equally divided amongst my sons Anderson Stroud, William Stroud, Marshal Stroud, Thomas Stroud, and Dickson Stroud, and my daughters Fanney Howeland, Elizabeth Stroud in the following manner to wit, each child is to receive his or her equal share twelve months after they arrive at full age of all my estate real and personal except the plantation and land afsigned to my beloved wife but after her death the said plantation and one hundred acres of land to be divided between my sons . . . and daughters . . . in the same proportion as above . . ." He appointed his wife as Executrix and 'trusty friend' John Hogan as Executor. Signed in presence of William Willis, Mary Buckner and William Buckner.
A note is written on the original copy of his will that "Wm. Stroud died 9th day of Aug. 1786."
Inventory was taken on 26 Aug 1786 and filed for probate on 21 Nov 1786 in Orange, NC. The value of the estate was estimated to be in excess of 686 English pounds.
