Biography

William Patterson Stuart was born on January 15, 1866, in Cumberland, Pennsylvania. He married Mary Jane Herman Fleming on November 23, 1887, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. They had four children in 15 years. He died on November 25, 1943, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, at the age of 77.^[1]

William P. Stuart, a retired coal dealer and more recently an employe (sic) of Harrisburg Bridge Company, died yesterday at a hospital. He was 77 years old and resided at 131 North Thirteenth street (sic).

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary J. Stuart; three daughters, Mrs. Frank J. Fahnestock, of Loysville; Mrs. Mary Stuart Gross, of Harrisburg, and Miss Doris F. Stuart, at home. Six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren also survive, and two sisters, Mrs. W.C. Stuart, Carlisle, and Mrs. Harry M. Stephens, of Mountville.

He was a member of Robert Burns Lodge of Masons, Harrisburg Consistory, and Harrisburg Forest, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and had been an elder in Pine Street Presbyterian Church for many years.

Funeral services will be held at Pine Street Church on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. C. Ralston Smith, pastor, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Dr. C. Waldo Cherry. Burial will be in the Old Graveyard, Carlisle.
