Biography

Janet Stuart was born circa 1688 in Scotland. She married William Alexander Craig, also born in Scotland. He was a Presbyterian "Covenanter." (an adherent of the National Covenant (1638) or of the Solemn League and Covenant (1643), upholding the organization of the Scottish Presbyterian Church)

They migrated from Scotland to Ulster, Ireland after 1715 and from there emigrated to Pennsylvania about 1725. Apparently the entire Clan packed up and left Scotland, because it was all the brothers, sisters, their spouses and children on the same ship... [1] Note: this is an undocumented secondary source which states clearly at the top that there are known uncorrected errors.

The family migrated to Virginia circa 1740. She died sometime after 1759 in Staunton, Augusta County, Virginia

All of the children of Janet Stuart and William Craig were born in Ulster Ireland:

  • Robert Craig, born May 12, 1712, died June, 1788, in Mt Meridian, Augusta Co VA.
  • James Craig, born July 31, Antrim, Ulster, Ireland; d. 07 Feb 1791, Mt. Meridian, Augusta Co. VA.
  • John Craig, Sr. born between 1716 and 1718, died 1803, Lincoln Co, KY.

Wouldn't she have gotten married in Scotland since they didn't move to Ireland for another 3 years?

Stuart-1688 and Stuart-2306 appear to represent the same person because: same details = same individual
