Henry Villiers-Stuart (1st and last Baron Stuart de Decies) was born on 8 June 1803 at London, England. He was the son of Lord Henry Stuart and his wife Lady Gertrude Amelia Mason-Villiers.
He was given the name of Henry Stuart at birth. On 17 November 1822 his name was legally changed to Henry Villiers-Stuart by Royal Licence.
He was created 1st Baron Stuart de Decies, of Dromana, within the Decies, co. Waterford [U.K.] on 10 March 1839.
He died on 23 January 1874 at age 70 at Dromana, County Waterford, Ireland.
On his death, his Barony became either extinct or dormant.
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England. He then entered Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.
He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the Waterford Militia. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for County Waterford between 1826 and 1830.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Banbury between 1830 and 1831.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of County Waterford between 1831 and 1874.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] in 1837.
On 12 January 1826 Henry Villiers-Stuart was married to Theresia Pauline Ott , He went through a form of marriage at St. James’s, Spanish Place, London W1, and (under Scottish law) in Scotland - she was widely regarded as his wife.
