Biography
Margaret Lynn Stuart was born on December 31, 1777, in Greenbrier County, Virginia. She was the daughter of John Stuart and Agatha Lewis.
At the age of 24, Margaret married Andrew Lewis on August 25, 1802, in Greenbrier County, Virginia, when he was 29.[1][2] They had ten children - Charles Cameron, Agnes Stuart, John (died around age 4), Mary Jane, Elizabeth (died before age 1), John Stuart, Margaret (died around age 4), Sarah Frances, Elizabeth, and Andrew (died around age 3).
In 1820, Andrew and Margaret lived in Mason County, Virginia, with 1 male under 10, 3 males 16-25, 1 male 26-44, 1 male over 45, 3 females under 10, 1 female 10-15, and 31 slaves (16M, 15F).[3] In 1830, the couple lived with 1 male 15-19, 1 male 20-29, 2 females 10-14, 1 female 15-19, and 25 slaves (13M, 12F) in Mason County, Virginia.[4]
Following her father's death in August 1823, she received a bequest of $15,000 from her father's estate.[5]
Andrew died in May 1833. Margaret died on April 6, 1835, in Point Pleasant, Mason, Virginia, at the age of 57. She was buried at Benjamin Lewis Cemetery in West Columbia, Mason, West Virginia.[6]
