Biography

David Hairston Stump was born in 1834 to Bartley and Polly Yost Stump born in Tazewell Co, Virginia. [1]

David Stump, age 23, married on 10 Feb 1857 Nancy E. Reynolds, age 17, born in Craig Co, Virginia, daughter of Robert and Susan Reynolds. Married by William E. Neel.[2][3][4].

They had one daughter, Martha Jane Stump born in 1858 in Tazewell, Virginia.[5]

Nancy E. (Reynolds) Stump died in 1858.

In 1860, David, age 25 and Martha, age 3 were living with his in-laws, Robert Reynolds and his wife, Susan S. Reynolds. [6]

David Stump married Harriett A. Edwards, age 22, the d/o William & Martha Edwards on 29 Nov. 1860. They had nine more children, 52 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. [7]

He served 4 years in the 17th Virginia Calvary under Col. Ferguson.

He is mentioned as being the land owner where the original Ebbing Spring (later Old Glade) church was located and probably donated the land for the church. [9]He belonged to the Methodist church for 47 years.

David Stump died in 1911 from La Grippe, his funeral held at the Methodist Church in Glade Spring and buried at the Old Glade Spring Cemetery.[10]
