Harold served as a corporal in the 393rd A.A.F Air Base Sq in World War II. His tombstone in Oakwood Cemetery has the "f" on his name.[1]
In 1910, he was living with his parents and three brothers in Fandon, Bethel Township, McDonough County, Illinois.[2]
In 1920, he was serving as a Private in the U.S. Army at Camp Lewis in Pierce County, Washington.[3]
In 1930, he was living with his wife Lulu (or Lola) and her family in at 1900 N Adams St in Peoria, Illinois.[4] He is listed living with her as late as the 1938 Peoria City Directory.
He had a child with Hazel Martin.
He worked as a Coca Cola Truck Driver.
He registered for the WWII Draft on February 16, 1942. He was living at 1801 1/2 South Adam St. in Peoria, Illinois. He worked for Hiriam Walker on Edmond Street. He listed his sister, Doris, as his point of contact.[5]
Harold Edward Stumpf, of Macomb died on last Thursday afternoon as the result of cancer, aged 43 years. He was the son of John Stumpf and wife and was born in Bethel township and had lived in Peoria for some years. He is survived by his wife and a son, Billy Duane Stumpf; also by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
Harold served 2 1/2 years in the First World War, four years in the U.S. Naval Reserve, and six months in the Second World War. His son is also serving in the present conflict, being at present in the Southwest Pacific. All honor to Harold Edward Stumpf.[6]
