Merle A. Stump, 69, of 610 Caroline, a retired Caterpillar Tractor Co. employe, died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday at Leisure Hills Health Care Center. A patient since Oct. 6, he had been ill several months. His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kuecks-Woolsey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be at 8:30 p.m.
He was born April 13, 1908, in Colchester, a son of John and Mary Ellen Hall Stump. He married Elizabeth Edmonds Aug. 4, 1951, in Macomb. Surviving are his wife; a brother, Wendell Stump, Calumet City, and two sisters, Mrs. Doris Davis, Raleigh, N.C., and Mrs. Maxine Churchill, rural Macomb.
Mr. Stump, who worked 25 years for Caterpillar before he retired in 1968, was a Navy veteran of World War II. He belonged to Pekin Masonic Lodge 29, the Peoria Consistory and AFL-CIO Local 974. Memorials may be made to the Tazewell Animal Protective Society.[1]
