Helen - some records list her as "Ellen"- Sullivan Jones was born circa 1837, maybe earlier because her first know child was born in December of 1856. She married Michael Jones, who was born of Scartleigh, County Kerry, in the year of or before 1856. The marriage date is a guesstimate because it is assumed that Mary Jones is the first-born child to this union. Assumption is that Helen Sullivan was from the Listowel area.
When her daughter, Annie Jones Mahony, married, Helen's maiden name was listed as "Ellen Sullivan" . [1]
Family tradition suggests but does not confirm that Ellen (Helen) Sullivan Jones had family in the Corry, Pennsylvania area when she and Michael Jones settled in Spring Creek, Pennsylvania after immigration to America from Ireland. It's estimated that she and her husband, Mike Jones, and at least, their wo children, Pat Jones and Hannah "Annie" Jones, immigrated to the United States after May 18, 1862 which is when their last Irish-born child was baptized. Actually, Michael Jones and Helen Sullivan were baptismal sponsors for a Jones niece in November 1862 in Listowel so they must have immigrated between Dec 1862 - Feb 1870. [2][3]
On 26 Feb 1870, Helen Sullivan Jones first appeared in the church records of St. Thomas Church in Corry as a witness, along with her husband, Michael Jones, to the marriage of Charles Lopus to Honora (Nora) Hannon.[4]
Next, Helen Sullivan Jones appeared with her family in the 15th of September 1870 Spring Creek Township, Pennsylvania census.
In the 1870 Spring Creek, Warren, Pennsylvania census, they lived near the Charles and Honora "Nora" Lopus family. Everyone on this census is listed as being born in Ireland. They also lived near the John & Elizabeth Sullivan Hannon family in Warren county, Pennsylvania. Somehow Helen Sullivan Jones is related to Elizabeth Sullivan Hannon, either as a niece, sister or first cousin.
Family members recall that Ellen Jones was an invalid in the latter years of her life. She was buried in Holy Cross cemetery, Lackawanna, New York with her husband, Michael Jones; her grandson, James Mahony, who died as a child in Buffalo; her son, Michael Jones, who also died as a child in Buffalo; and not certain if there are other family (?) members not identified in the graves. [5]
In Ireland, records have been found for these children with her husband, Michael Jones. There may be more children born in Ireland as Michael Jones in his hospital records [6]said he was the father of "eight or nine children".

The Catholic records of Listowel published on Ancestry with images are reported as being from the National Library of Ireland.
The book of baptism where Ellen's children are recorded (Mary Jones in Dec 1856, Margaret Jones in 1860, Patrick Jones in 1858, Hannah Jones in 1864) is MISSING records of baptism from July 10 1841 - May 26 1856.
This particular book also has marriages from June 19, 1856-Nov 1880.
This may explain the GAP of records that is needed to find marriage of Michael Jones and Ellen Sullivan; also to find earlier baptisms of other children.

According to Maggie's autosomal DNA tests (at all test sites) and Blaine Bettinger's X Chromosome chart, the MOTHER (no. 47) of Ellen Sullivan (no.23) & this unknown, unnamed woman's maternal line would be in Maggie's X Chromosome line. Ellen Sullivan Jone's mother is Maggie's Unknown Great-Great-Great-Grandmother, born abt. 1810 in Ireland, probably county Kerry. Most matches under Chromosome 23 start 39657460, ends 91456458. Also matches at Chromosome One starts 209837683, ends 245953416 AND Chromosome Four starts 5762161, ends 32449832 & 37634192, ends 58475491. Largest triangulation with me (other than my own children & siblings) sharing Chromosome 1, 4 & 23 is at 278cM shared (KG@23). There are many others to lesser degrees.
