Obituary

Geraldine "Boots" Owens, 80, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at CMMC in Jackson. Visitation will be 5-9pm Thursday, February 10, 2011 and Friday 10am until the 11am funeral service, all at First Baptist Church of Byram. Interment will follow at Alex Sullivan Cemetery in Mize, MS at 3pm. Chancellor Funeral Home of Byram in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Owens, a native of Smith County, had lived in Jackson since 1969. After 25 years of service, she retired as Executive Secretary with Jackson Public Schools. She was recognized in 2010 by MS Association of School Administrators for her contribution to education in MS. She was also an accomplished musician for many quartets and churches. Mrs. Owens was a member and past President of County, State and National Association of Educational Office Professionals. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she has served as a Worthy Matron and Grand Officer. Mrs. Owens was a longtime member of McDowell Road Baptist Church and presently a member of First Baptist Church of Byram.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Bidwell "Bid" Owens; sons, Butch (Margaret) Owens of Springhill, TN; and Robert (Felecia) Owens of Terry; daughters, Naomi Lewis of Hazlehurst; and Gerry (Martin) Hull of Terry; brothers, Paul Sullivan of Gulfport; and Vernie Sullivan of Gautier; sister, Jan Allen of Greenwood; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Byram.

Emma Geraldine "Boots" Sullivan Owens---eldest surviving daughter of Shep and Dovie Sullivan, granddaughter of Julius, great granddaughter of Wild Bill, passed away yesterday. Visitation will be at FBC in Byram, MS, from 5 - 9 p.m. Thurs. and 10 - 11 a.m. Fri. Funeral services at 11. Lunch. Transport and burial in Alex Sullivan Cemetery following. Survived by her spouse, Bid Owens, their four children, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grands (and one on the way). Also survived by 2 brothers and one sister.
