Biography

According to his obituary, John Sullivan was born on 15-Jan-1846 in New Hampshire. This matches well with his probate records. There is some conflicting information though. According to his daughter Margaret's death record, he was born in Boston. According to the 1900 census, he was born in Dec 1845 in Massachusetts. Massachusetts is also listed as father's birthplace on his daughter Katherine's death record. He may have lived in both locations as a child.

For many years John was a foreman for the Chicago Great Western Railroad.

Residence Locations:
1865 - Muscatine, Iowa (birth of daughter Margaret)
1873 - Nebraska (birth of daughter Katie)
1900 - Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, at 413 E. 6th Street (US census)
1903 - Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, at 413 E. 6th Street (probate)

According to an announcement in the Davenport Daily Leader of 26-October-1898, John Sullivan and Nora (Manning) Sullivan's daughter Nora married J.R. Lee at their home on 413 E. 6th Street in Davenport.

The final report from John Sullivan's probate says that, "The deceased died of natural causes in Bonderout, Iowa (near Des Moines) while in the employ of the Chicago & Great Western Railway company, and his body was shipped to Davenport for burial".

According to the 1900 census, both of John's parents were from Ireland.
