Biography

John was born in 1825. He was the son of James Sutherland and Helen Buie. He worked as a carpenter and later as a supervisor for car maintenance at the Michigan Central Railroad. He married Rosetta Chamberlain. He passed away in 1894.

Death Notice

Death of an Old-Time Railroad Man

John B. Sutherland, who died yesterday at Cleon, ManIstee Co., was a brother of David S. Sutherland, division superintendent of the Michigan Central Railroad, in this city. The deceased resided for many years in Detroit, and was for some time superintendent of the car department of the Michigan Central road, leaving to engage in farming. He was 70 years old, the eldest of four brothers, two of whom reside in Detroit, and the other at Albion, Mich. ^[1]
