Deborah was born in 1813 in Greenbrier Run in Harrison County, Virginia (present-day Doddridge County, West Virginia). She was the daughter of John N Sutton and Rachel Davis. She grew up on the family farm in Greenbrier Run within a strong Seventh Day Baptist community. In 1836 at age 22, she married Jepthah Fitz Randolph in New Salem. They stayed at first in the immediate Salem area, probably in Greenbrier Run, farming and having four children there. In 1845, the family trekked 650 miles to Milton, Wisconsin where there was another important Seventh Day Baptist community. They bought land there, but only stayed through the harvest before returning to New Salem. They then settled in and helped to establish the village of New Milton. They had three more children there. Her husband Jepthah passed away in New Milton in 1879. Deborah remained in New Milton, staying with her sons. She lived to be 87, passing away in 1901 also in New Milton. She is buried with her husband in Middle Island Cemetery there.

Surname note
In this Fitz Randolph family, Fitz appears to have been used by all family members in the family where Deborah is a wife as their middle name as if part of their surname: In some censuses, the family is recorded using FitzRandolph or Fitz Randolph. The current consensus is therefore to use the surname Fitz Randolph as her married name. (Need to confirm how Fitz Randolph was used in the Jepthah Fitz Randolph family in legal documents and when births were recorded.)
