Hardy Sutton was born in then Johnston County, North Carolina on 17 September 1803 and died at Moseley Hall in Lenoir County, North Carolina on 11 September 1861. He married Ann Hill and they had 5 children: Louiza Sutton (1815 - 1861), Richard Sutton (1822 - 1856), Thomas Sutton (1826 - 1894), Julius E Sutton (1847 - 1925) and Junius E Sutton (1847 - 1931).
