Hi Mary,

How are you? I'm David a WikiTree Mentor. Thanks for adding profiles to WikiTree. There are reasons behind the eighth point in our Honor Code: "We cite sources. Without sources we can't objectively resolve conflicting information." A source provides a way to find out more about the person. Showing sources reduces confusion and duplicates.

This page describes Sources.

The Sources Style Guide shows how to enter sources in the biography.

And I'm here to help too, just ask!

Hi Mary, You've created a number of duplicates of your own profiles. And some of the profiles you've created are for people already on WikiTree. I've proposed merges for the ones I've found. It's important to create only one profile per person on WikiTree. Just because the spelling is slightly different is not a reason to reject a merge. It's also important, especially for profiles of people born before 1700 to have good sources. Please review the Pre-1700 certification test you just took for more information about what is a valid source on WikiTree. Thanks!

Please check your merges, you have some pending. At the top of the page, click on Find, then Pending Merges, then Pending Merges Waiting for Action by Me.

Thanks!

Hi! How are things going? Do you have any questions? One Month Member!

As you go farther back in your tree, it is a good idea to do a search first to see if you have a match already created on Wiki Tree before creating a new profile. And keep in mind, if you do find a match, odds are the manager is also related to that person and probably you!

There is a great question to review on G2G regarding duplicate profiles and merges. See: http://www.wikitree.com/g2g/51703/behind-merges-identifying-lowest-numbered-profile-correct A great place to ask specific question is on G2G. Under My Wiki Tree (on of the links at top right) select G2G PROFILE. You can browse/ask/answer questions. You can also "tag" them by topic. I am a mentor, so let me know if you have any questions! Hi! Now that you've had a bit of time to enjoy WikiTree, here are a few more features you may find useful:

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found on the Bio Ideas and Styles and Standards help pages.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom, or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, please ask!
